Mesothelioma-Incurable Cancer
On the tectonic of the recent Mesothelioma statistics it can be said that one in 10 generally survives with life expectancy of more than 3 years and one in 20 will last for over 5 years after being diagnosed with Mesothelioma. If someone is detected at preliminary stage, then there is the highest possibility of the survival from the clutches of Mesothelioma. However a reliable source claims that the chance for the survival is 50%. 1 in 2 will be alive after 2 years. There is no denying the fact the larger the trail, the better survey with upgraded statistics will be obtained regarding the Mesothelioma cancer.
In this connection, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, doctors and specialists in the particular area of concern conducted a survey on 120 patients who suffer the brunt of different sorts of Mesothelioma cancer in the years between 1980 and 1995. All these patients were given the medical treatment with surgery for the removal of lung and pleura in medical term pleural pneumonectomy being succeeded by a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy instead of immunotherapy. 54 out of 120 patients in this survey were found with the life expectancy over 2 years and 26 out of 120 that is 22% patients were alive over 5 years. All had expired. This type of survey determines the chance of long term life expectancy due to medical treatment and proper medication.
However, there is no guarantee for the complete revival from the clutches of Mesothelioma. Patients ultimately face the eventuality in life within short span of time as there is no better alternative. It is also seen that patients with sarcomatiod and mixed Mesothelioma underwent substandard prognosis. In this particular case, only 20% patients were alive over 2 year and 5 years. Therefore this type of statistics can help someone to get information regarding the severity of Mesothelioma.
